Safety Innovations Deluxe Top Door Lock Review & Giveaway

We spent a lot of time preparing Caitlin's nursery. This led to two discoveries. 1) The Irishman does not like any sort of DIY projects products with complicated instruction sheets. 2) Regardless of how cute the rubber duckies are, I am not fond of having a bathroom attached to the baby's room.

I was sent a two-pack of Deluxe Top Door Locks by Safety Innovations to use and review. Unlike the Bifold Door Locks, this time it required use of a drill. Honestly, I was worried.

The lock was simple to install. It was only one little screw to drill into the door frame. That is it. My reluctant husband asked me to read him the instructions. He feared the worst but was pleased with the simple idea.

I was impressed that it leaves only a small mark but yet is easy for adults to disable or remove. I am not the tallest person around, but the wand feature makes it easy enough even for someone short like me.

Morgan was able to make the door wiggle, but then again he is a 6-foot-something Irishman. He seemed to think that fingers could get caught in the door if you really tried, but I am not so sure. I think you would have to REALLY be working at it. I LOVE the idea of keeping the bathroom door locked and think this style of lock is the perfect solution to our problem!

Safety Innovations Deluxe Bi-Fold Door Lock Review & Giveaway

My current baby obsession has moved past baby food and into baby proofing. Caitlin is wiggling and has made it into a crawling position once or twice. It is just a matter of time before she is mobile and I want to be ready!

I was sent a two-pack of Deluxe Bi-Fold Door Lock by Safety Innovations to use and review. I was able to install them myself before the Irishman even got home from work. It was super easy. There was a little wiggle room so I did have to use the insert provided, but that was no problem at all.

I actually forgot to mention to the Irishman that I had put door locks on the closet door. He went to get the cat food out and I heard, "What on earth..." I guess that means it worked!  You can wiggle the doors a little if you try, but the lock is enough to keep the door closed.  As an added bonus, the cats can no longer get into the closet to get into the bag of cat food!

The locks leave no permanent mark or damage and are easy for adults to disable or remove. I am not the tallest person around, but the wand feature makes it easy enough even for someone short like me.

I love that Safe Beginnings provides PDF files of the instruction manuals online. My husband is currently still in DIY retirement after the last big project, so seeing the instructions ahead of time is a huge help! There are several itemsproducts on the site that we were given as gifts...including our favorite bath tub.

Bubble Baby

Last weekend when Caitlin had her first little cold I ran to the store to pick up some baby chest rub. While I was there I came across some California Baby Aromatherapy Cold and Flu Bubble Bath. That led to Caitlin's first rather pricey bubble bath.

She wasn't sure what to make of it at first,

but by the end she was splashing and playing away!

I think we may have enjoyed her bath as much as she did. The Irishman and I love the smell of eucalyptus, and we were all breathing easier by the time she was done!

There's no better way to hang out with your duckies!

Irishman's Tribute to the Red, White, & Blue

Last weekend I joined the girls for a Sunday brunch.

While I was out the Irishman decided to surprise me by outfitting Caitlin in her finest USA gear.

He put out the put up the background and got the camera ready.

It is the Irishman's tribute to the Red, White, and Blue.

Review: Cash4Books.net

We are a family of readers. Even Caitlin (at 6 months old) has a bookshelf full of her favorite board books. When I was recently asked to review a book site it seemed a natural match!

I've mentioned before that I LOVE to read books, but I am not fond of buying new books. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE new books. It is new book prices that bothers me. I also am not one of those people who needs to keep every book I've ever read on the book shelf. Space is at a premium, so I have a pretty fast turn around time with my books.

Sell Used Books Online - Quick Cash, Free Shipping, Free Quotes!

I have recently been introduced to a new site for selling books online. The idea is simple. You enter ISBN numbers from the books you wish to sell. They instantly give you a quote and you can decide if you wish to sell your books or not.

How did it work for me? I went into my book drawer and chose a handful to post.  They have very specific book conditions listed and none of the books I want to get rid of were currently being bought. Out of curiosity I went through the shelf of books we are currently reading and found a number of books that are in demand. (Though not the books I am ready to part with!) I think this site would be ideal for people who buy and quickly read popular, current books. (As opposed to my Irish cast-offs)

Best of all? Free shipping. You get paid for your books and they pay shipping. If you have more than 5 books they even upgrade your free shipping to FedEx. I have had printer problems (another story for another time) and was impressed to see that they will mail the FREE shipping labels to you if you are printer-challenged.

I was driving by a local university and saw a sign advertising "Sell Textbooks for Cash."  I cannot think of an easier way to sell used textbooks. I always loved selling back my textbooks back in the day but it meant long lines...and with instant quotes and free shipping it could not be easier online!

Payment for your books can come via check or PayPal. As a teacher, I love their partnership for school fundraising. This means that you can donate the book sale payment directly to classroom projects via a "Giving Code" (like a gift certificate) you choose on DonorsChoose.org. Not a bad second life for books you don't want anyway!

My take? If you have current books or textbooks this site is for you! Regardless I would suggest trying it out. It only takes a couple of minutes to enter the ISBN numbers to find out if it is right for you.

Disclosure: All opinions are mine. I am being compensated with a $25 gift certificate to MKZbooks.com in exchange for my honest review.

WW: Why?

Mommy likes this picture because:
it captures a tender moment between Caitlin and her daddy. She loves that fact that her little girl looked up at the camera and is showing off her beautiful eyes. Mommy thinks that her little hand in his is just lovely.

Daddy likes this picture because:
it contains both his baby girl AND the Liverpool Football Team Crest. He considers that combination to be "Legendary" and will likely follow up this post by e-mailing Mommy requesting more such photos with Caitlin wearing her baby-sized Liverpool jersey.

Mommy & Me Monday: We've Got the Spirit

Yesterday was Pentecost Sunday, so we all wore red to Mass. The recently retired Monsignor who performed our wedding always reminded everyone to wear red for the Holy Spirit and it is something little we try to do each year.

Of course these days I can't let an opportunity like that go by without pictures...

Caitlin didn't want to look at the camera...

She was more interested in the leaves and planning how to get them in her hands!

I know she loves her mommy, but
Daddy is the most fun!

We've got the (Holy) Spirit!

On the Bright Side

Even though:
The cold bug has hit our house...and Caitlin has kindly shared her germs with us. (I thought foolishly that I has escaped, but I can feel it coming on now.) I only have 13 days of school left...but I have lost ALL motivation. In my trunk I have a box of poetry notebooks to grade that must finally be dealt with this weekend. My lesson plans are due on Monday. I have to meet with the principal on Monday to do my evaluation on Monday and haven't even started getting my paperwork together. (Or figuring out how to show I met my goals from last year when I took off three months to have a baby instead.) I have the ever dreaded morning duty next week...which means an extra stress each morning as I am running late. The sheets need changing, the floors...yuck! Our floors are bad. The neighbor's cat may get eaten buy the weeds in our patio...although that cat keeps harassing ours through the window so that might not be a bad thing.  Speaking of cats...the litter box needs to be cleaned. I need to make a vet appointment for Rafa. Speaking of appointments, the Irishman and I both need to go to the dentist. We also to find a new doctor who has not switched to geriatrics. I desperately need a haircut and my eyebrows...ick. There is still a pile of thank you cards to write...and a pile that just need to make it to the mailbox. Speaking of piles, I may not have to make an appointment for Rafa if he gets eaten by the pile of clean laundry in our bedroom that needs to be put away. I am SO ready for the summer...but we have to figure out vacation plans for the much longed for summer. Then there are car seats and baby gates to research and purchase.  Did I mention a sick baby and husband?

If you are still reading this I am truly sorry.

Even with all of that swirling in my head,
I am going to look on the bright side.

I know God won't give me anything I can't handle.
I just wish he didn't trust me so much.

-- Mother Teresa

It is Saturday morning and
I get to spend the weekend with
Caitlin and the Irishman.

I love my family....
germs, snot, and all!

PSF: Sprig

Across the pond is an Irish dog named Sprig.

The Irishman and Sprig have a special bond.

Several years ago, his siter June found a "Sprig" plush toy at Tesco in England.

We decided if Caitlin can't meet the real Sprig yet,

it was time to introduce her to his fluffy fake counterpart.

Aren't they cute?
