Caitlin’s Camera

Yesterday Sean went for his 1 year check up. We weren’t sure if he would be deemed well enough to make it a well visit or if it would be a sick visit, but he passed. The shot record at the day care had to be updated by the end of the month so we were hoping he’d improved enough.

While he is much better than he was this weekend, he is still snotty. And teething. And has a post-shots fever. While I was dropping off his updated shot record to the day care, Caitlin walked into the nurse office.  It turns out that she has a 100 degree fever. Yuck!

Anyway, Sean fell asleep on the couch and Caitlin ran to get her camera.

That's my girl! I realized I hadn’t taken the photos off Caitlin’s little camera in a while.

She is very good at setting up the pictures. Sit here is commonly heard,

Dress Up

Tonight when I got home from work Caitlin was running around wearing just her panties. By the time we finished dinner she had added a tiger headband and tail into the mix. She was running around the house “tricking” us into thinking she was a tiger.

All of a sudden she has an interest in dress up. One of her favorites is the tutu I won when she was an infant. Thank goodness for elastic!

I found some headband/tail combos in the clearance section at Michaels. They make noises. We have an elephant, a monkey, a blue dinosaur, a green dinosaur, a tiger, and a cheetah. They were only $3 each and I had visions of possible Halloween costumes. As it turns out they are dress up gold.

Caitlin love Super Why these days. She stumbled upon it on the PBS app on the iPad and has been hooked. She found her old Halloween costume and was thrilled. “Mom! A Super Why costume!”

The one costume I wanted a picture of her in was the one she wouldn’t post in. This is the nurse costume Nana sent from Ireland.

This next photo made me wonder if she was just dressing up to hide the hair cut.

Hmmm…

She is growing up so fast!

(I checked the cameras today. The only place we’ve taken any photos is on the phones. The quality may not be the best, but the convenience sure makes up for it!)

Rain Clouds

Yuck.

They said on the news tonight that a band from Tropical Storm Isaac broke off and decided to stick around South Florida. It you watch the radar you can see it happening. The storms heads off into the gulf and this giant band of rain stays behind.

It is like a giant rain cloud decided to stay right above us. So far we’ve gotten about 10 inches of rain. School was canceled today. The Irishman had to work, but the kids and I were off. I am back in school tomorrow but the day care is closed so Morgan is staying home with them.

(Side note – I took Caitlin to have a professional try to fix my attempt to trim her bangs. They are still super short, but it is an improvement!)

IMAG1184

I had a cold last week that I have passed onto my family. Caitlin is doing okay, but the guys are pretty miserable.

IMAG1203

Sean has it the worst of all. I can hear him now on the baby monitor. He is coughing and crying out in his sleep.  I called the doctor on-call in the middle of the storm and got some medicine. I ventured out with two kids in the pouring rain today to have them listen to his chest and was told it sounds worse than it is. The poor kid is miserable.

IMAG1204
(Side note – check out those lashes!)

The Irishman put his PJs on as soon as he got home from work. I am praying that he feels better in the morning. It is going to be a long, hard day for Mr. Mom otherwise!

IMAG1210

Back to school is hard at the best of times. Add a tropical storm and two sick kids and it is pretty miserable.

IMAG1211

I wish I could think of something fun and upbeat to post, but it wasn’t that kind of day. It was the kind of day that eats you up, chews you out, and finds out eating soup for dinner while writing lesson plans at 10pm. It was the kind of day where there was literally a giant cloud above us. It happens. These things pass. It could be better. It could be worse!

At least there is a (non-tropical) long weekend coming up!

Milk Man

Sean LOVES his milk. It has gotten to the point where he requires a bottle in the morning before he will let you change his diaper.

IMG_0308

The ideal is a change to lean back on pillow and chug it. The kid doesn’t pause. He keeps drinking until the bottle is empty!

This was after Mass on Sunday. We are usually not so well dressed for a bottle!

She’s My Sister

The Irishman and Auntie June went out shopping a few times during her visit. At some point someone passed comment about his wife. From there on out he was quick to introduce her to anyone he met with, “She's my sister.” I think it may have preceded a greeting at one point. It became a running joke.

Buried

We went to the beach with Auntie June during her visit earlier this month. She agreed to let the kids (and the Irishman) bury her in the sand.

IMG_1203

She was such a good sport about it!

IMG_1205

The kids loved it.

Caitlin really misses her Auntie June!

~~~~~~~~~~~
Today is the first day of school. I spent about 7 hours at school this weekend and about 3 hours working from home. (Caitlin was at school for 5 hours on Satuday and thought it was the best thing ever! She had far mroe fun that I did!) I made major changes in my classroom and they are great, but I tried to do too much in too short a time. I love the things I did but I am frustrated with the things I didn’t get to. I have SO much to do at home and at school. Working all weekend also means I haven’t had a chance to rest.
To make matters worse, I tried to trim Caitlin’s bangs Sunday before her swim lesson. After the last time I said I wouldn’t do it again, but the hairdresser actually talked me into it. She said I hadn’t done that bad last time and gave me some tips. I tried to follow them, but Caitlin was sitting in a low chair and looked down as I made the first cut. I had to make another cut to try to even it out, but I was terrified to go near her.  It is bad enough that I am considering telling people at school that she did it herself.I am actually considering taking her to the children’s salon Tuesday afternoon and paying to have them try to even things out.
This is the first time since February 2009 that I am not pregnant or nursing. As a result I had to go bra shopping this afternoon. On the plus side I found some great deals on the clearance rack at Kohls. I won’t go into details, but let’s just say I needed a (much) smaller size. Sigh.
So if you are keeping track I am tired and already behind at school. My house is a mess. I butchered my daughter’s bangs and my chest size has decreased.
Is it Friday yet?
Swim Lessons
Caitlin has been taking swim lessons from our friend Lyndsay for the last month or two. We only recently got to watch a lesson. Lyndsay is a good friend, so we usually babysit her twins while she takes Caitlin to the pool. We hadn’t been to the pool to swim with the kids since the first or second week of her lessons so we got to see all her new swim skills.
Pretty impressive!
IMG_0266
Even though she is doing well with her lessons, she prefers to wear her Puddle Jumpers. On Sunday we’d talked about going to the pool after Mass. Caitlin stopped and insisted I open the trunk so she could “see something.” It didn’t take long to realize she was checking to be sure that her floaties were there.
We decided to let Sean get his own Puddle Jumpers. As it turns out they only had pink ones at the store so Sean got the blue hand-me-downs instead. They are still a little big, but he had fun!
IMG_0265
The first time she jumped into the pool Auntie June and I were worried that she meant for us to catch her. We could tell really quickly that she meant to go under the water and bounce back up.
IMG_0274
She slowed us her toes and put her face in the water.
IMG_0275
We miss Auntie June! We had a great time swimming with her when she was visiting!
IMG_0282
Of course they think the snacks are the best part of any such fun!
Bows, A Braid, and a Horse Tail
I was cleaning and organized Caitlin’s hair bows. While she has no interest the in bows normally, the fact that I was cleaning meant she needed to wear them all at once.
IMAG1077
Another day I was trying to talk Caitlin into letting me do her hair. I wanted to do French pigtails. Caitlin didn’t WANT piggy tails. She wanted a HORSE tail.
IMAG1097
The end result is braids with a horsie tail.
It might LOOK like pigtails,
but don’t be fooled!
Jump and Play
Auntie June has been in town visiting for the last week. On Friday we decided to drive to a nice area nearby. The first stop was the indoor playground where we went for Emma’s birthday earlier in the summer. Before the party I told Caitlin we were going to “jump and play” so she knew exactly what I meant when I told her we were going to “jump and play” after lunch!
IMG_1161
Sean had as much fun as his sister.
IMG_1158
This has become my favorite play place. It is just right for where my kids are right now.
Caitlin was brave enough to dive into the foam pit.
IMG_1172
I love this one because you can really see that they are having a good time. Sean’s new favorite trick is to throw things over his head. This is his, “Oh! Where did it go?” face.
IMG_1167
I was taking a picture of Seanie and Auntie June when Caitlin decided Sean should play with her.
IMG_1176
I have a lot of pictures of Caitlin in motion.
Caitlin put on the costume and the decided the head was her favorite part so she carried it around like a stuffed animal instead.
We headed to the mall afterwards to look at the dancing water (fountains) while Auntie June had a look around. It was a great day!
