Kids Say the Funniest Things…

I have had a few ideas for posts running through my head and decided to use the common threads to add them into one.

~~~~~~~~~~~
There’s Music Everywhere
I know that the “I can do it myself!” stage is common, but Caitlin has taken it to a new level. Not only does she tell us she can do it herself, she sings it to us.
“I can do it, there's nothing to it.
I can do it by myself.
Had to ask for help when I was small.
But now I'm big and I can do it all.
She knows the whole song including the spoken interlude when Baby Bop says, “Do you know why? Because I’m THREE YEARS OLD.” I am still trying to convince Caitlin that she is not yet three years old. I’ve told her she will be three years old on her birthday just like Baby Bop.
She keeps telling ME that I will be three years old on my birthday like Baby Bop. Oh, well.
In this picture she is singing, “Friends are Special” to her “friends.” Caitlin has inherited my ability to remember songs. She knows them all! The CD player in the car died recently though she knows all the words already! Barney is usually the source, but if the song fits she’ll sing it!
(This is going to be a blog post of its own. We have an entire list of songs she sings as we go about our day. You name it she sings a song for it! She'll tell you that herself as she sings, "There's Music Everywhere")
A Man of Few Words
Sean will be 1 next week. While he has really started babbling this week, he doesn’t say much yet. He has a repertoire of three:
1. “DaDa.”
IMG_9993
2. “Momma.”
IMG_9992
3.“Don’t do that.”
IMG_9987
A certain two-and-a-half year old has something to do with the last one. She is often heard saying, “Don’t do that, Sean!” or “Seanie! Don’t do that!” The other afternoon the Irishman and I both thought we heard him say the phrase. Then at dinner that night he did it again complete with shaking  finger.
Oh. My.
On the Go
Last night Caitlin grabbed every bag she could find and put them all on her shoulders. She was pushing a doll in her stroller and turned back waving to me.
“Bye! Have a good day! See you later!”
She got to the door and stopped.
IMAG0980
“Oh, no! Where are my keys!’
She stopped and started dropping the bags and digging through them.
I think my mouth fell open. It was like watching myself walk out the door in the morning on my way to work.
I found a set of play keys and tried to hand them to her. She sighed and said, “Those aren’t MY keys.”
Wonder where she gets these things from…
Dinner conversation the other night:
C: Mommy. Guess what?
Me: What?
C: (whispering) I love you!
This was supposed to be our vacation week. We should be at Busch Gardens now rubbing shoulders with Elmo and Big Bird and visiting with family in St. Pete. Instead we are at home with a sick kiddo. Caitlin has croup, though not the typical variety. No cough. I didn’t think you could get croup without the cough, but she has done it. The poor kid has been running a low fever on and off since last Thursday. She woke up Saturday morning a bit hoarse and hasn’t quite been able to shake it. We’ve been to the doctor twice and started medicine yesterday. So far it hasn’t made much difference. We are hoping for improvement soon!
We’ve spent a lot of time at home and working around the house. It is nice, but we are disappointed. It isn’t quite the vacation we’d planned! It is so hard to get time off at the same time. We hope we can find a time to reschedule the trip.
Oh, well! We have to make the most of it! At least we have the kids to entertain us! ; )
Mommy and Me at the Beach
I recently stocked up on some beach toys on clearance at Target. Caitlin found the bag of goodies in the car and was desperate to try them out. She used to often ask to go to the beach or the pool when I picked her up from school, so I have told her that they are closed then. Now when I pick her up from school she says, “Mommy, I think the beach and pool are closed.” After finding the toys she tried to convince us that maybe it WAS open.
IMG_1067
Last week I was only working mornings. Wednesday afternoon I picked her up from school in the middle of naptime. This time the beach was not closed. It was just the two of us.
IMG_1074
With her new toys and a new swimsuit this kid was in heaven.
IMG_1086
We played in the sand.
IMG_1077
We built sandcastles and tore them down again.
IMG_1087
We went on treasure hunts.
IMG_1079
We splashed in the water.
IMG_1090
We made memories.
IMG_1089
We took some pictures.
We had a blast!
Parakeet, Please
Sean loves balloons, but the Irishman recently discovered he also loves to watch birds. They were running errands and stopped by a pet store.
The Irishman took this video but he assured me it doesn’t do it justice.
We needed cat food so we went back a few days later.
I think we know what Sean wants for his birthday!*
*(Please rest assured we have no intention of actually buying a parakeet for a 1 year old!)
Just the Girls
Saturday morning the Irishman took Sean for a jog. At about the same time I saw a post on FB from one of our favorite parks advertising tot time. It was a special program – no registration required. Caitlin and I got dressed and headed that way.
IMG_1026
Yes, her shoes are on the wrong feet. We took care of that in the car! The purse held her “special coin” for the carousel It was $5 for tot time so we stopped at the bank on the way there. Caitlin was thrilled – a lollipop!
IMG_1028
Tot time was full of some of her favorite things. She colored, enjoyed a snack, and played with special toys. She was as busy as a bee fluttering around the room exploring.
The frog was a big hit. She bounced and then took him along with her all over the room.
After a little over the hour we headed to the carousel. Much to my surprise she only wanted to ride once! She did insist on the bench though!
IMG_1053
Has anyone ever seen this? I’d walked past it but didn’t realize the brilliance of it all. The big piece of wood means that if one person swings the other swings as well. No pushing required. Talk about smart!
IMG_1054
IMG_1055
On the way home we stopped for lunch at Panera. Caitlin enjoyed her grilled cheese and special cow yogurt.
IMAG0953
Walking back to the car we came across these chairs. Too cute!
IMG_1058
To top of our Mommy/daughter date we stopped at Publix. Grocery shopping in the “green car” cart, a sprinkle cookie, and a balloon? The perfect ending to a two-year-olds day!
Sprig
I know I’ve shared pictures of Sprig before, but he has recently become one of Caitlin’s favorite friends. He is named for the Irishman’s dog across the pond and he looks a lot like his namesake….though much less smelly. ; )
IMAG0932
Sean isn’t usually allowed near Sprig if his sister has anything to do with it. Last week Spring came with us to the doctor and stayed in the car when we got dinner. When Caitlin decided to go to Publix in the Irishman’s car on the way home it left Sprig and Sean together at last.
It is so funny to watch them lug around the giant dog. He is well taken care of though. Caitlin even shares her snacks with him.
Pretzels anyone?
Tuesday, July 17, 2012
Well I fully intended to post pictures of the kids today. It would seem that the 26,703 photos in my folder are not accessible. I tried a new back up system this weekend. It didn't work and I briefly lost all 26,703 pictures. Talk about panic!
Picassa won't let me use the pictures from the desktop where I moved them so I am waiting for all 26,703 photos to move back into the correct folder. Our computer is old. It takes a while.
Bottom line? I'll try to post tonight. I know how the grandparents get without their pictures! ; )
As a side note: Does anyone have a back up system they like? We have a lot of pictures so it can't be too pricey!
The Boy and the Balloon
Last night we met at Moe’s for dinner. Kids eat free on Wednesday and they had a face painter as well. Caitlin loved it!  As soon as I told her of our destination she started bargaining. FIRST Moe’s, THEN Publix. I started to protest, but we needed bread and carrots so she got her wish.
I headed home with Sean while Caitlin and the Irishman stopped at the store. When they came home they had a balloon for Sean. He was SO happy!
We are really struggling with ideas for his birthday next month, but we know we are going to get him a dozen balloons. I can just picture his face when he sees them!
