Lazy Saturday Randomness

I have some random photos to share from a lazy Saturday.

Up first: I love onesies with cute little designs on the bottom. Ruffles for the girlies and tigers, fish, etc for the little guys. I love it! Sean has already started gaining weight so we are trying to make use of all the newborn sized clothes while he still can!

Second: Caitlin isn’t a fan of the single stroller these days, but she loves sitting in front of the double stroller. She wasn’t thrilled when Sean’s car seat was added to the mix, but she adjusted.

It was just a short stroll around the block, but it was nice for the four of us to get out.

Third: Caitlin is doing well adjusting to having a little brother around. We’ve had a bit of pacifier regression. Caitlin went from only using the paci in the car and at Sunday Mass to stealing any pacifier she can find. At this point, I’ll take it. (Though we have drawn the line at stealing the pacifier from the baby’s mouth…)

If you can catch her without the paci, she will smile and say, "Cheese!"

Ag dul abhaile

Thursday Sean and I were released from the hospital. He decided to show his team spirit and wear his Cork gear home. We took lots of pictures while we were waiting to get the discharge papers in order. He already looks so much bigger than he did earlier in the week!

The Irishman offered to help with this post...the title is Irish for "going home."

We are settling into our new life as a family of four!

Sharing & Caring

Today, we had not planned on bringing Caitlin in to the hospital. Yesterday was a really tough day on her, and we had decided that it would be best for her to wait until Thursday to see her Mommy and baby brother at home.

This morning though, Jenny received an invitation for a celebration dinner in her room, for herself and the Irishman. After much thought and consideration, we decided to make it our first family of 4 dinner night.

Caitlin did much better and taught us all about sharing and caring! However before Caitlin and Daddy arrived, Sean had another great day with Mommy.

He started off with a nice little nap in the boppy cushion.



He managed to find the most comfortable spot on the boppy, without too much hassle.



He then peeked out from under his blankets and cozy hat to welcome Ruth to the hospital. Visitors are always nice, and she brought lots of goodies too.



It all seemed so exciting, as he managed to award himself with a grand old stretch and yawn.



Daddy and Caitlin arrived at around 5pm. Enjoy the little video link below.

Caitlin loved tickling Sean’s toes, and Sean did not mind either.



As you will have seen on the video clip, Caitlin really wanted to help give the dummy / pacifier to Sean. The pictures below give you an indication on her persistence.





Having gone through the whole caring piece with Sean, Caitlin wanted to have a little bit of sharing too. What better way to share than to try out Sean’s pacifier herself and one of his spare baby hats!



It was a really nice evening and best of all, Mommy and Sean come home tomorrow.

When Caitlin met Sean

Last week when visiting the Birth Pavilion at the local hospital, we learned that children under the age of 12 were not allowed to visit any of the patients. We were so disappointed as we had been looking forward to being able to bring Caitlin into the hospital to visit her Mommy and her new baby brother.
About 20 minutes before going in to have Baby Sean delivered, we learned that the under 12 rule did not count for family members. As I am sure you could imagine, we were thrilled.

Today, Caitlin met her brother Sean for the very first time. It proved to be a really hard day for Caitlin.

The plan started out well, with Sean having a “Cookie monster” for Caitlin and Caitlin bringing an “Elmo” balloon into the hospital for Sean.



While Caitlin and I travelled to the hospital, we talked about how we would give mommy and the new baby a kiss. Every time I mentioned this to her , Caitlin would proceed to blow a couple of kisses.


Caitlin walked in the door of the room holding a bunch of flowers and her balloon, and rather than being excited about seeing her Mommy, the tears started to flow. She never outwardly cried, but the eyes welled up, the lip went out and the tears streamed down her cheeks.



As the tears continued to roll, Caitlin managed to give her Mommy a kiss



And she soon followed this up with a kiss for Sean.



All agreed that it would be a good idea for Caitlin to spend a little time with Mommy. As you can see, Caitlin is wearing her new Big Sister shirt.



After spending a little time with Mommy, Caitlin went to the Irishman, and she became increasingly curious about her new baby brother.





She even managed to help give Sean his pacifier, before deciding it was time to hit the road. Leaving her Mommy in the hospital was difficult, and it was a tough drive home. But it was an important day and one that we will always remember and treasure. Caitlin may have found it hard today, and not fully realized what was going on, but she is going to be a great big sister.



As for Sean, it all proved to be too exciting for him, and by the end of the visit, he was fast asleep.


It is now 12:25AM Eastern Time, and this Irishman has completed his second blog post.

The Arrival…

On Monday August 1st at 13:05, Sean David Paul announced his arrival to the world. Weighing in at 8lbs 13oz and being 21 inches long, Sean announced his arrival in style, true Irish style, as he arrived with the rain gently beginning to fall outside.

Both baby and mother are doing well, while the Irishman can only be descried as feeling like a child at Christmas time. Below are some snapshots from a truly memorable day… (with a little added commentary of what Sean may or may not be thinking…) 

“Yes, I have arrived. I am just about ready for my close up… one last stretch…”

“So this is my Daddy”

“And this is my Mommy”

“Time for sleep. Plenty of time for pictures tomorrow”

So how is Caitlin doing with the arrival of her new brother? Today was a day where Mommy said her goodbyes and Caitlin went off to day care without a worry in the world. Her new doll accompanied her on the drive in to school. While we were at the hospital we learned that Caitlin will be allowed to visit her brother. Tomorrow is sure to be an exciting day…

Chef in the Pink Dress

After Mass on Sunday (last week so it is pre-haircut!), Caitlin took some time out for a snack.

Bread anyone?

Then she headed into HER kitchen.

The kitchen in now in her little play are in the living room. I am really hoping that this will be the thing that leads to her playing a little more independently. Before she would play in her play area, but only if you were sitting in there with her. Now there is a new game.

First, she must find the right ingredient…

Okay, zucchini will do.

Then she brings it over to the couch where I must be waiting with the pig puppet. Mind you it is not ME she wants, just the pig. You see Mr. Pig must take the food Caitlin brings to him and eat it. She makes, “Yum, yum” sound effects to go along with this.

She is starting to get a lot out of her Melissa and Doug food sets. She is all about using the wooden knife to cut the bread and veggies. The pizza toppings are being fried up in the pan.

We love our little chef in the pink dress!

I trained the Irishman this afternoon on how to do a blog post. He took copious notes and is already planning his sign off...not sure what that means yet!

We've gone over everything from how to load the pictures onto the computer, to basic editing, to uploading with the watermark. Be sure to leave him some comment love once he becomes guest blogger-extraordinaire!
